Latrobe, PA; September 28, 2018 – United Mine Workers of America (UMW)’s National Council of the Coal Miners Political Action Committee (COMPAC) unanimously voted to endorse Bibiana Boerio, the Democratic candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 14 th District. The action was taken upon the recommendation of the Pennsylvania State Council of COMPAC.
“We very much appreciate the support you have pledged to both active and retired coal miners and their families, especially in such difficult times as the coal industry is experiencing today. Your strong voice in support of our members is an inspiration for all of us,” said Cecil E. Roberts, International President; and Levi Allen, International Secretary-Treasurer.
“In southwestern PA, we understand that coal mining is more than an industry. Coal fired the furnaces that formed the steel and glass that built this country. Mine workers, wearing a headlamp and carrying a lunch pail formed a life for many families.” says Boerio. “Today we can’t take anything for granted. We must defend our families and elect those with honest concern and motivation to fight for what’s right.”
Boerio has become a favorite of labor and community organizations, previously receiving endorsements from:
- American Federation of Labor-Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO)
- United Auto Workers (UAW)
- United Steel Workers (USW)
- American Federation of Teachers Pennsylvania (AFT)
- National Education Association (NEA)
- Pennsylvania State Education Association (PSEA)
- Pennsylvania Federation of Democratic Women
- Sierra Club
- Gertrude Stein Club
- Steel City Stonewall Democrats
Boerio reminds all citizens to get out and vote on November 6!
