PA-14 DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE BIBIANA BOERIO ASKS HER REPUBLICAN OPPONENT TO JOIN HER IN CONDEMNING FEDERAL POLICY OF SEPARATING IMMIGRANT FAMILIES AND CALLING FOR IMMEDIATE REUNION OF FAMILIES
Bibiana Requests Her Opponent Join Her in Participating in the “Stop Separating Families” Rally Taking Place this Friday at the Westmoreland County Courthouse
Latrobe, PA – Bibiana Boerio, Democratic nominee for PA’s 14th congressional district, issued the following statement regarding the Administration’s federal policy on the treatment of families crossing the American-Mexican border:
“We all agree that we need to protect our borders. However, the policy of separating young children in some of their most formative, vulnerable years from their parents was inhumane and not an honest solution to the improvements needed to immigration policies. In short, it should never have been implemented and now the Administration should immediately do everything necessary to reunite the affected families.
“These are people who, by and large, are looking for relief from violence and persecution in their home countries. For most of these families, these crossings amount to a first-time misdemeanor in American law. The children themselves have done nothing wrong and the long-term trauma they may suffer because of the policy is indefensible. How could we justify separating parents and children for a first-time misdemeanor? Federal funds should be spent on actions that will truly improve border security and on investment in infrastructure projects that will strengthen our economy.
“The actions of this Administration do not uphold our values as Americans. I ask my opponent to join me at tomorrow’s ‘Stop Separating Families’ rally in Westmoreland County to stand up for our American family values. We must condemn these new policies and demand the federal administration take immediate actions to reunite these families as quickly as possible.”
The “Stop Separating Families” rally will take place tomorrow, Friday, June 22nd, at 7pm at the Westmoreland County Courthouse, 2 N. Main Street, Greensburg, 15601.
